Is she through?

DH just called to tell me that Gladys, A Boer doe has just had a little girl and she is passing afterbirth. Is she through, or might she have another baby in there? Just asking because she is so big, we thought there might be 2 or 3.

Put your arms around her stomach, so your hands are right in front of the udder. Then, bounce and poke up into her stomach. If there are any more kids in there, you'll feel it. If not, her stomach will be all mush feeling.

congrats on the baby!

Another way...

....unless another baby is in the birth canal. Then you will not necessarily feel it by "bouncing". I make it my practice to go into the doe and check it out by feel. (Just in case) If you clip your nails, wash very good up to the elbow and lube up, (some use surgical gloves too) before you go in, you shouldn't have a problem. Just go slow and carefully.

That is what I do. Everyone is different.

Actually, you can feel them really well when they're in the canal. Often, if they're in position you can place just one of your hands right in front of the udder and feel the baby literally RIGHT THERE, lol. If they were any farther up she'd be down an pushing and you'd know there was another.

I agree with zone, I always go in to check. I don't trust my judgement bouncing.
