Black oil sunflower seed

The only black oil sunflower seed I can find is sold as bird feed. Is this the same stuff you are feeding your goats? Don't want to buy the wrong stuff, lol.

Thanx !

Yup, same stuff....

Just be careful how much you feed to the goats - if they get to much they learn how to fly.....

I made the mistake of giving too much to a buck kid and now he thinks he can sing.

Don't tell him I told you all but he's really bad.

LOL Thanks for the funny stuff. I usually give mine an average of no more than one cup each per day. Unless I am trying to condition a coat and skin.

Why do y'all give them these sunflower seeds in the first place? What am I missing out on? (Besides singing goats)

I started feeding them to my horses because I read somewhere (don't remember where) that it was a good supplement for their coat and hooves. I was having problems with one of my horses feet at the time. It said that feeding BOSS didn't hike up their insulin and make them wacky like grain can. Well, my horses LOVE them and then when I got my goat I found out she LOVES them too. Then I saw that other goat people were adding it to their goats diet so I give it to my goats as a treat (lunch) BTW (in my opinion) my horses and goats look awesome with their shiny coats and healthy feet!

Dumb question: Is BOSS a source of Vitamin E, in addition to the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids?

Hrm. Maybe I'll plant some of those sunflowers this year then. I could probably just cut the head off the plant and throw it over the fence. I did that last year with regular sunflowers and they loved it. Only problem is I ended up with sunflowers coming up randomly all over the pasture this spring.

They are something I can no longer afford with the price of everything going up. They add fiber and healthy oils to their diet. But last time I priced them here they were running close to $20 for 50 lbs. When I used them several years ago, I could get a 50 lb bag for $9.50.

One thing I noticed on wild bird seed was that some companies added vitamins for the birds. Walmart's brand did that.
