QUICK help please

This is my and mama goats first time...
she had her first kid about 3 hours ago, it is very hot here and she seems to still be in labor and the baby is panting very heavy as if he is thirsty... can I give him anything by bottle?
Mom isn't nursing him at yet and he doesn't seem to be able to find the teat. Mom is drinking water alot... should I be giving her anything else? how long should I wait for another kid before I suspect trouble?
She is standing and looking great. She is a mini mancha
thank you

If he's standing, put your hand behind his fanny and guide him to the teat. With your other hand, guide the teat to his mouth. If you try to hold his head, he will get confused. One hand on his fanny, other on her teat.

Do NOT confuse him with a bottle now.

A shot or two of molasses in her water would be a good thing.

Are they in the shade? If not, make sure they get into the shade.

She still has to labor to pass the placenta, but if she's really struggling, there may be another kid. Our doe that just kidded had about three hours between kidding and passing the placenta.

You may have to scrub up and go in.

Do not give him anything. He needs colostrum - and nothing else. If he doesn't nurse in a couple hours you can milk her out and feed him the colostrum by bottle.

I agree with the above, try to help him find the teat. I think he will be fine. If you think the do is still in labor or distressed lube up and go in. Feel around so you are sure there are no more babies in there. I don't have tons of experience, but my kids came out one after another.

Do you have any Bose? Give him a shot of that if you are concerned.

Exclamation

GO IN. Do not wait. If you think she is still in labor, it could be the placenta but how do you know for sure. Yicks! Better to be safe than sorry.

Scrub up with soap and water up to your elbows really good. Clip your nails down. Put lubrecation on your hands/arms. If you are using surgical gloves, put lube on them. Put your finger tips together and go in slowly and carefully. If she is still pushing, time your entry with her pushes/contractions.

You might want to "bounce" her to see if there are more kids.

http://fiascofarm.com/goats/bouncing.html

Some cool water with molasses would probably be good for her.

I just got back from down there and she is laying down NOT onher side though...just normal and still seems to be pushing ever once and a while... she is a mini mancha, am I gona hurt her going in???? I don't have huge hands or anything but, and the baby still doesn't want to suck. he is just wanting to sleep and pant really fast...
If I go in and feel a baby what do I do????

I agree with the bouncing but this year I thought one of my does still had one in there, ado I bounced her, (I have done this for years), and I thought OK she is done. Well about a hour later I decided to go in and sure enough there was a baby STUCK in the pelvis, that is why I did not feel it when I bounced her.
After 20 minutes of pulling I pulled out a 15 pound doe.

Oh I NEVER have given any antibiotics after I go in either as long as everything is clean. I go in every doe that has less then three babies (I know Please do not say a word about it, I have done this for 7 years and I have NEVER had any trouble).
It can take up to 24 hours to pass the placenta.

Give mom some nice cool water wit the molasses, and some Nutra Drench if you have any. Mom and baby.

Congratulation on the baby. How about pictures??

If you feel nose and front feet, you get them lined up to come out.

If you feel back end, find the back feet and get them lined up to come out and pull very very gently.

Be SURE you don't have front feet with the head turned back.

You will hurt her more by leaving her and doing nothing. So thats not really an option at this point.
Wash up well and have a feel. gently ease your hand in using plenty of goo from the doe to lubricate your arm and hand(I slime up real well before going in). When you reach the kid, you need to work around and keep feeling until you find a foot. If it is a front foot(pointed up) follow it back and find the other leg and the head. Make sure they are all lined up then *gently* pull.
If it is a back foot you find(toe pointed down), follow it back and find the other back leg and then gently pull.
If you find anything else being presented(shoulder, back, butt, neck), you will need to gently manuever the kid until you can find the feet.
Just use your fingers and I find it helpful to close my eyes and concentrate on just what I am feeling inside.

I just went into a Nigerian after she kidded "just to make sure". And sorry rose but pulling "very very gently" will not get the job done. Yes you have to be very careful and time the pulling with the contractions. Do NOT jerk on the kid, but sometimes (when you've got everything lined up properly, make SURE it is properly lined up) you have to pull pretty firmly. Nice steady, strong pressure when she is pushing. Ease up when she is not.

After several hours of pushing though, she might be exhausted and might not want to push anymore. Just be very careful not to tear anything in there, but yes... go in.

You will probably put your hand/arm in halfway between your wrist and elbow, so do not be too timid about it.

Hope this helps. Oh and a nice dose of CMPK when she's all done. And BoSe shots for the kids.

Zone, you phrased it better than I did. I just didn't want her to jerk.

Thinking positive thoughts!

Okay, I went in as far as I could and she was not real happy and pushing but, all I could feel was like a ending. I didn't feel a open area like an empty womb but I didn't feel feet legs or a head or anything that I thought would resemble a part of a baby. just sorta felt like her insides. as if you went in and felt a stomach. I hope I am explaining this alright. She only had a little discharge when I was doing this and it looked more like the lube mixed with her secretions. It just might be me but, she still looks prego. I did the bump thing to the best of my ability and knowledge and really didn't feel anything that I thought felt like a baby... could she just be done? the baby still won't go to her teat either... He is just laying around and panting... Oh I know you hate us newbies... I'm so sorry. I have read and read and thought I was so prepared.. I also thought she wasn't due til the end of June so I don't have BOSE. I will try to give her molasses water and she has eaten some grain...

You did fine!!

Is the baby standing at all? Is he looking for the teat?

Did she lick him off? If he's still icky, scrub him with a clean towel. The scrubbing will stimulate him and help get him moving.

Great job. She might be done and just laboring to release the placenta. So hard to diagnose this thing properly over a message board. You're doing fine as you go.

See if you can get that baby nursing. Suckling at the teat will stimulate his mother's uterus to start contracting and finish pushing out the placenta. Plus, he needs the colostrum. If you want, milk a little on your fingers and hold the fingers next to the teat to show him where the great smelling stuff comes from.

Did she lick him at all? They may not have bonded properly right off the bat.
