I need advice from any of you who seed thier own hay.I have a field that will be seeded this week but I'm still trying to figure what to plant. It is a fiels that gets very wet in the spring so alfafa is out of the question. It will only die.So what can I plant that will be best for my goats and a moist field?

Ask around to local farmers. They will tell you what grows best in your area.

I know what grows best around here but I want to plant what will be best for the goats too. I could plant trefoil and orchard grass but I'm unsure how great that would be for the goats.
Thanks Ann.

we reseeded our hayfields to orchard grass and red clover. The red clover will die out in a few years but the orchard grass should do well. We need to reseed some more clover. In the 1950's the farmer who owned our property did a massive reseeding of a perennial vetch that is still doing well and the goats love it.

Thank you goatsrus ,there is a bit of red clover in that field now so it might do good to reseed it again.
