Smile The amazing lawn-mowing goats

Okay, so our lawn mower is broken and has been at the shop for a month. Called yesterday, and apparently it will be fixed in two weeks! Our yard looks like a meadow! Monster dandelions, tall grass, violets, queen anns lace, jewelweed.....you get the picture!

We've been putting 6 sheep at a time out on the grass to keep part of it down, but they are not the fastest eaters and we dont have many panels to fence in more.

So here was my genius plan: lawn mowing goats!

Yes, I know, goats dont eat lawn grass or pasture, they like woody browse. Well, my goats must be freaks, because when I let them out, they went nuts!

I only have two grown does right now, and then the twin boys of one. I tied the two does to the apple tree, and just let the babies run around. They didnt go far. They had a great time on our wood pile!

The does ate the grass down to about 5 inches in their little circles. It worked great! So we have a nice short place in our meadow, now.

Anyway, it was a good time.

Oh, and about tying the girls up, they did not get tangled even once. Plus, I was never more than 20 feet away when they were out, because I was fixing my rabbit run. So even if they had started to strangle, I could have been there in a flash.

Aren't they amazing! we just fenced off two acres, a large portion of it being overrun with honeysuckle and poison ivy. we couldn't even get to the west side fence to make it goat proof because it was so jungle like. well 3 days later every shred of honeysuckle foliage was gone and they were out eating onthe other side of the old barbed wire fence....and we were struglging to find a way to goat proof the west side fence. we keep walking through the area looking around and saying "I can't believe what they have managed to do in such a short period".
