registering

I have a question. I have an experimental ober/alpine doe that was registered by the people I bought her from. I also have a buckling who is not registered, but I have the paperwork to do so. However, I don't want to. I am not a member of ADGA, nor do I want to be at the moment. Question is, if someone wanted to register one of the babies out of these two, would they be able to or are the out of luck if I don't do the parents?

You can register goats if you aren't a member of ADGA, it just cost you more than it does me, who is a member. Do the paperwork and transfer the goats into your name, then yes as long as it's doelings you can let others register them out of this doe. There is no such thing as recorded grade or experimental bucks in ADGA. Vicki

There's no recorded grade registered bucks, but there's plenty of Experimentals- bucks from two registered parents with so many generations of recorded pedigree. There are quite a few registered bucks with parents of two different breeds.

The answer to the original question is "kinda". The buck would have to be reg. to have registered kids. A non-member registering a 24 month old+ bucks will pay over $50. The kids could also be recorded as "recorded grade" with a "sire unknown." If the sire & his pedigree is known, however, this isn't really the honest way to go.

I was going to paraphrase my answer that once bred up, or sables, but since it didn't pertain to what she asked I thought it would just confuse her more. Vicki

Ive recently learned, that dealing with the adga as a non-member is a nightmare. you will not be able to choose a permenant tatoo unless you are a member, and they all must be registered with a tatoo, and if you register as yourself, and then want the kids to show in 4H, you will have to start a new membership as your children standing alone, or your family to meet 4H rules, then you will have to transfer (and pay the fee) all your goats to them or you and family. plus then you can have a personal tatoo, but it wont aply to goats owned by non-member you. they dont tell you none of this stuff.

If you ever plan or doing more with registration than just keeping a couple for persoanl use, just get a membership. I hate that I had too (didnt want to), but it was the only way to keep the tatoos and paperwork consistant.
they have some really stupid rules there. I assure you it was irritating and frustrating.

sorry, can you tell Im mad at them? wish there was another option.

I think I could register the buckling with AGS, but, to my understanding, they only so purebreds and my doe is an ober/alpine cross. This was mostly for information. I don't want to show or register or anything. I only intend these for personal use but still tried to get some nice animals. No sense having trash to feed. I just figured I'd find out since I'm sure it's bound to come up at purchasing once or twice. So it sounds like, if people want animals that can be registered, they shouldn't buy from me.

Thanks all! I appreciate it.

.................

Sure they do. And first of all who would join anything without getting all the info up front? My daughters showed from 8 years old until they graduated, I now show my goats all under the same herdname. There are ways around all the 4H info by having a family membership. My girls were named as owners so there was never a problem and we all bred goats under the herdname Lonesome Doe and had the same tattoo numbers so we didn't have to transfer goats or use service memos. If there is room for Vicki, Stephy and Joni McGaugh in the owned by signature for my kids to show ceratinly it can work in varying ways for others...especially considering one of my friends has a bakers dozen and all her kids show, now even the 3 year old.

Of course you have to join a registry to have your tattoos be protected, and of course they aren't going to let anyone register goats who belong to or don't belong with another persons tattoo.

I have my own individual membership from years back that I can reactivate when I need it. Children's membership fees are super cheap like $10 a year? And you can write a note and allow your children or anybody else in ADGA for that matter to use your tattoos or use your herdname as long as it is on file before you register kids.

I have never ran into a problem that wasn't fixed with a phone call to the ADGA office. Vicki
