Question How do you get a doe to go into heat outside of breeding season?

I have a dry yearling Alpine. I would love to breed her now or within the next few weeks. How do I get her to go into heat? It is outside of her natural breeding season, right? Does Lute (Lutelyse sp?) work?

Thanks.

In Nubians you can put a rambunctious, rank, yearling buck in with yearling virgin does and most will cycle and kid in the fall. It's called bullying. I can't believe that it will work with you Alpine, it didn't even work well with our Lamanchas.

Lute will only cause a doe to come into heat, it will not cause her to ovulate if she is not coming into heat naturally or it won't work at all. Even during normal heats, lute doesn't work anywhere near 100%.

CIDR's which are plasitc tampon looking plastic applicators found readily for cows, not so readily for goats, are inserted into the vagina. They are bathed into progesterone so bring the doe into heat, you then take them out in 11 or 21 days depends upon who you learn from, then a shot of PG600 which forces ovulation...and once again a protocoal you use from someone doing it, not talking about it because if you give too much your does can have litters, not a good thing for a young doe. You of course want to start with does in a gaining plane of nutrition, freshly wormed, feet trimmed, bo-se shot and in optimum health. This has been talked about alot on dairygoatinfo.com with alot of info in goatkeeping101 we have saved. Vicki
