First for me

And this is why I stayed home. I was supposed to go to Denver this weekend but had a bad feeling. At about 2:30 my dogs started throwing a fit. I stepped out to quiet them & heard newborn kid. I yelled for help, grabbed a flashlight & went to check. My matriarch had twins on the ground, mostly clean. No trouble. I turned to go into the house and noticed Button. Button is a yearling. She was in labor but not acting to distressed so I watched her. Finally at 6:30 I decided to go in & see what was going on. She had kept pushing & nothing was happening. I checked her. There was a head, there were feet. But even with me helping I couldn't get that baby out. Then I sat back & looked. The back legs of the second goat was coming out with the head of the first. I got the legs back in and delivered the first baby, grabbed the second baby & delivered it too. I think she might have a third but I am giving us both a break.

I was almost in tears trying to pull both those kids at the same time. She was screaming, I was frantic. But the twins seem to be fine. She is cleaning babies and I came in to warm up & drink some tea to settle my stomach. Between that experience & 2 hours sleep, my tummy is revolting. I have delivered goats for three years. I help with difficult births for my neighbors. But I had never had two try to deliver at once! I hope she will be okay, It looked to me like she did some minor tearing.

Poor Button! What a good thing you listened to your gut and checked her out. If you'd gone to work, you might have come back to a dead goat.

I'm sure you know to give her a shot of antibiotics after that ordeal.

Give yourself a pat on the back for stepping back and looking at the situation. If you would not of done that then you just might of lost the babies, and even mom.

Congratulations.

Wow! you are a Super Hero! This is why we have to listen to our gut feelings...I ALWAYS kick myself when I don't so it is there for a reason. Congrats to you for handling such a difficult ordeal so well

Congratulations on the new babies & a job well done! Thank Goodness you were home, you'll have to post us pictures after you get settled down. So did Button have a third kid or just the 2?

Just the two. I am relieved. I got the antibiotic in her and below are the photos. The first is a video clip of the other set of kids born last night. Button & her kids are laying down.

First for me - Goats

First for me - Goats

We named Button's kids, Chai (female) and Hot Fudge Sundae (nicknamed Sunny, male).

The first two are Cappy (Cappichino) and Cream (short for Buttercream).
