I get to work on a goat farm!

This weekend I get to go to a local goat farm and work part time.. I get to learn all things about keeping and raising goats.. She says next weekend she'll show me how to feed, milk, and medicate goats.. I'm so excited.. Finally I get to learn hands on! She has 80-90 goats and she's not more than 40 minutes away from me..

My mother doesn't get my desire to raise/grow my own food.. She asked me why I can't just go to the grocery store.. I tried to explain it to her but it's like talking to a brick wall.. I even offered to bring her some cheese or butter once I get my own goats and learn how to make it.. She said no, she'll get hers from the grocery store.. Was I switched in the hospital at birth?

I was offended at first but that's ok.. She's afraid of trying something new.. This is for me, my husband, and my kids.. She can have her store bought over processed foods with all kinds of additives and preservatives and who knows what else.. I'd rather get as much of my food as I can from my little piece of land.. The thought of being self sustaining makes me very happy..

Anyway, I just so excited about going to work with goats.. I just had to tell somebody.. But I have nobody here to tell that really understands.. My husband is happy that I'm so excited but isn't excited in quite the way I am.. He's just happy that I'm happy.. Doubt my inlaws will understand either, and they were raised on farms.. But it doesn't matter.. I get to work on a goat farm!

Thats great! And who da thunk of the role reversal?* Probably not the right term..What a great oppurtunity you gotta do it!
* its usually the parents who are doing their best to teach the kids about "the good life" hoping they will appreciate it.

Good for you! What an opportunity to learn all you can, and even better to have a mentor not too far away.

Saturday was my first day at the goat farm.. I loved it! It was hard work (they have at least 50 goats) but I've learned so much already.. They are so full of information and so willing to give it.. Oh, and don't get me started on the goats.. Absolutely love them.. So adorable and so sweet.. Several followed me around to make sure I was doing everything right.. I only got a chance to do the feeding, watering, and a couple other small things though.. They don't do a lot in the afternoon since it gets so hot.. By then the goats relaxing in the shade anyway and chewing their cud.. Tomorrow I get to learn to milk a goat.. Can't wait.. So excited..
