Wry face

Is Wry face in a goat hereditary? Or a fluke?
I went to buy a Buckling and the Sire had a Wry face. None of his off spring so far has it.Out of 12 offspring.

Interesting question. Describe "Wry" face. I am unfamiliar with that term. If it is hereditary, it sounds like a recessive gene. ???

According to the rules for some registries, it is grounds for disqualification.

It is defined as a crooked face or jaw.

I'm wondering why they would need to breed a buck with a wry face? There are plenty of excellent bucks out there that they could've used. I think he should have been castrated and probably butchered.

If the kid didn't have this at birth it can be caused by a sinus infection. We had a Saanen does get a sinus infection that bent her nose, she was just a good milker for us, and obviously it wasn't hereditary, but it was when I learned about what a wry face was. There is also wry tails where they hold their tails up over their backs all the time, like they can when they are due to kid.

No I would not want this fault in my herd, I woudn't knowingly purchase a kid from a herd who I knew had this in a bloodline I wanted. Vicki

So a tail flipped up over the back is a fault? Is that consistent across breeds? What should a good tail look like?

Sorry, inquiring newbie minds want to know

None of the goats on my website...sorry it is pretty pulled apart since kidding season, have wry tails. All my goats have normal tails if you want to look lonesomedoenubians.com A tail in a dairy goat would be long, the whole long boned idea. A goat who has alot of fat in her tail head or a tail that is really short usually goes along with shorter coarser bones and more meat conversion of calories rather than milk. Vicki
