Introducing Danger Zone! - Goats 9Patch Gleason Danger Zone (9 weeks)

Thanks for letting me show him off. Very sad news though.... Treeka, his Dam, had to be put down yesterday. I have the only Treeka-Gleason buck.

Thank you.

Looks to be Liver failure. I'm trying to find out if it is hereditary or just the "chance to get it" is? Hopefully neither.

OHHHH I LOVE HIM!
I am a softy when it comes to Alpines =) my first goat was an alpine wether named Punch, that I got when I was around 9 years old.
He got his name because being first time goat owners we let him come in the house and he proceeded to get in to a packet of fruit punch. I can still see him with shocking pink lips!!

LOL Sounds like he was great! My very first was a lamancha wether. Named him Chewbacca. I was about 14 and just starting 4-H. Bought a doe soon after. Her registered name was Goofball. She was very sweet and patient with me while I learned.

Many years later I got a Alpine/nub cross that was a wonderful milker. Hubby named her Goatie-goat-goat.

Only the buckling is mine. I can not take the credit for owning all of them, though I would love to.

And thank you. I think they are pretty too. Though I am a little partial. LOL

That's an awesome genetic stack. Cherry-Glen is highly influencial in Alpines and Toggs- they have bucklings that are $2000+ and they clean up in the show ring and are working commercial milk goats too.
Treeka looks like a super nice young doe- what a shame she's gone! She has a lot of dairy character and a extra nice foreudder in the photo.
As far as the liver failure being hereditary- if it was fatty liver- aka ketosis- there can be a hereditary factor. With ketosis, there is a management component and a genetic one.

100% Heredity?

Treeka only had one more show win/milking leg to get to become CH.

Thanks for the compliment about the genetics. I was pretty thrilled to get him at the price I did.
How strong of a trait is Fatty liver or Ketosis then? The rest of the lineage seem to be doing fine. Does this mean I should not use him for outside does? I already have several interested ones that wish to use him for their does.

And does this meant that it is always hereditary or just that it could be?

I have since learned that fatty liver disease and Ketosis are not one and the same. I will have to read up on both as I know little to nothing about them. Maybe they are related though. ???

Those are beautiful goats. My Alpine/Oberhasli cross doe kid is nearly the same color as your buckling, just a little darker.

Now I'm going to tell Whinnyninny to come look at your pictures to see what she needs to look for in a good udder!
