Bring back the milk after weaning?

I havent been able to sell my pygmy doe. I think I know why.
She has another purpose.

I pulled her kids about a week ago.
She was drying up quite nicely.

Today my daughter, 10 yrs old, wanted to see if she could get milk from the doe.

Not only did this goat stand beautifully without restraint, there was about a cup of milk to be had and it was delicious right out of the doe!!!

I couldnt believe how fantastic that small cup of milk was, nor how this doe stands so patiently!

I want more!!!!!!!

Is it possible to bring this doe back into milk and how?

Oh and she is a FF and is 1 1/2 yrs old.

Well, congratulations to your daughter!

Sounds to me like the doe is probably still in milk, and milking twice a day "should" keep her that way. I don't know how much you can expect to get, her being a Pygmy, but heck. You can't lose anything by trying.

NeHi
Thank you.

I am hoping to up that milk amount. Her utter was a heck of a lot bigger a week ago. Its hand size now.

She did have an absolutely beautiful utter when she was nursing compared to the other pygmies.

I just never thought of even trying to milk for us. We have had pygmies for their meat. I have milked a few for bottle kids. I didn't think it would be so darn gosh good. I thought only dairy breeds would taste that good. And hers is sooooo sweet!!!
If its so good warm right out of her, I cant wait to get some chilled!

My daughter was the one that tried it first. I didn't believe that she milked that goat with no prob. Nor did I believe she got good milk to boot. I had her show me and darn....my little girl was right!!!

She is in her glory. My daughter was looking for a reason to keep the goat.
We are going to all Boers for meat. Critters here have to give something in return for the cost. Fresh milk is a reason!!!!!

I knew this goat was a good girl, but darn what a surprise!

I'd milk three times a day (at least) for a week or more. See what happens.

Please keep us posted on how it goes. It would be interesting to find out how much you can get from her. She sounds like a little dream!

Thanks everyone. I didn't know if more than 2x a day would be too much.
I think I will try an early morning, noon and maybe a late afternoon and late dusk milking.
I am hoping if I keep taking she will make more to meet the demand.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

I got about another cup tonight. The only problem is, my daughter drank it before I got it in the refrigerator! LOL

Hopefully tomorrow morning my daughter will wait so I can try it cold.

Its so great too. I have a milk stand but haven't needed it! This goat lets either of us milk her right in the pen. She just stands there and chews her cud. My daughter has been handling this goat since we got her as a kid. She always brushes her and hugs her and the goat is so passive and gentle.
I am just tickled pink now.
