I have a sick kid goat and one min. she is ok and the next she is walking in circles and disoriented. I have wormed her an given her some drench. I was not sure what else I to do. Or should we have her put down?

Had you ever wormed her before? Is she grinding her teeth? If she is then she is in pain and you could give her some Banomine-check dosing, but I would call a vet and get their opinion on what it could be. Do you have Lystereosus(?) in your soil? Just a long shot. Good luck and keep us posted.

She is going to the bathroom ok. she also has been jerking hard every so often.and yes she is grinding her teeth. She had been wormed before. it had been a few weeks since it had been done. and she is about 2 1/2 or 3 months.

Copied from the Tennessee Meat goats site.
"Symptoms of Polioencephalomalacia can be any combination of or all of the following: excitability, "stargazing," uncoordinated staggering and/or weaving (ataxia), circling, diarrhea, muscle tremors, and blindness. Initial symptoms can look like Entertoxemia (overeating disease). There is a component of "overeating" involved in that the rumen flora has been compromised. As the disease progresses, convulsions and high fever occur, and if untreated, the goat generally dies within 24-72 hours."
Can you get any injectible B vitamins? It wouldn't hurt and may just save her.

I talk to a vet and he thought is sounded like Coccidiosis. So I am going to treat her for that. She is not overeating and she does not have diarrhea. She does get weak very easy.

I'm far from a pro, but I've never heard of cocci causing circling and disorientation. Is this vet one who is very familiar with goats?
Take a look at this link:
http://www.tennesseemeatgoats.com/ar...steriosis.html
If it's one of these, then time is of the essence.

You can treat for both and the B vitamin won't hurt her if you are wrong but may save her if she has polio. I've never heard of cocci causing circling either.
I would also give her probios or yogurt to make sure her gut is functioning well.

Sorry you lost your kid. If this ever happens again, give sub Q thiamin and Banamine. I think your goat had polio. It's very treatable with B1.

If the goat walks in circle. It is mostly likely is POLIO OR LISTEROSIS.

She did not have polio. She had a stroke and got brain damage from it. She was given a B vitamin shot and she never got any better. The vet told us after that, that she had a stroke and she was brain damaged. so we put her down.
