I got 2 goats in milk

They are so cute. BeBe and Prancer. I will post pics later today on my blog.
They are very patient with me, and are already trained to stand on the milk stand. Yesterday I got 2qts of milk from them both. Right now I am using the canning jars to put the milk in and I bought a Gal glass jug to use too. What are you guys putting your milk in after it is cold and ready to use?

I am off to milk the girls.

WEll Prancer decided to stick her foot in the milk bucket...so her milk was a treat for the dogs this morning. BeBe is a sweet girl and more pacient with me. I am going to be building my milk stand today so hopefully that will help with keeping them standing nice.

what are you guys feeding. I bought a show goat feed, but it isn't sweet, and I don't know if that is what they are use to or not. I also picked up a bag of an alfalfa/oat mix and they are eating it nicely, but not all of it. Maybe they are just use to this not taking so long. I am slow as I am learning but I think I am doing real good. I am getting faster.

i would go to the previous owner and ask what they fed them them.
goats really don't need sweet feed. plain rolled oats will be just fine.
congratulations to your new goats

I use the qt sized mason jars with the plastic lids for my milk storage. Once you get the hang of it the milking will go quickly! I know it took me forever to get my two milked out to begin with. Once in awhile we still manage to get a foot in the milking pail but not often. I feed mine, usually, a mix of alfalfa pellets, oats and beet pulp but have started on some sweet feed since my hubby claims the milk "doesn't taste right!" Tastes fine to me but I thought I would try a different feed to see if it helps for him.

Good luck with your two new ones!

I am so excited. I didn't think I was going to start this until next year waiting on my two girls that I have to be bred and then begin the process, but I found these two...so we are starting this year.

I really want to learn to make cheese, we dont' drink a lot of milk, but do eat a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese, and just cheese in general. So the research begins. lol.

I feed oats, corn, and boss on the milk stand. Alfalfa pellets and grass hay free choice. I use the same feed for the rabbits too.

Ditto on feeding oats and Black Oil Sunflower Seed on the milk stand.

I hesitate on the corn because in Texas, the parks folks ask that we not feed corn to the deer because it wears down their teeth. I figure goats and deer are pretty close.

Black Oil Sunflower Seed is this what they sell at Walmart?

I just tasted yesterdays milk, and it was very good. A little after taste of goat though...is this from food, or is it normal, and I will just get use to it?
