Bug bites on udder

Yesterday while milking daisy I found bug bites on her udder and I saw what looked like gnats what can I put on her udder to heal bites and to help keep bugs off?

It *could* be bug bites, but I'll tell you when I found what I thought was bug bites, it turned out to be a staph aureus infection.

Get some Chlorhexadine. The easiest form to find is the spray - Fight Bac.
From Hoegger Goat Supply -
Fight Bac
$8.95
This disinfectant helps fight mastitis by controlling mastitis-causing organisms. Spray teats after milking. Economical to use: 300 applications per can. Contains chlorhexidine gluconate plus glycerine to prevent chapping. 22 oz. aerosol spray can.

You can get a concentrate from the vet, too.

You can also get it by the gallon. It's blue. Looks like windshield washer fluid.

Keep a VERY careful eye on her. It can spread to the inside, and then you've got mastitis.

Do you have any of the mint bag ointment? Maybe that would keep the bugs off?

We've got them too. They're the little nasties that chew inside horses's ears and all along their belly line. My big doe came in the other night with bites all over her udder. No one else seemed to be affected by them.

I don't know what to use to repel them as anything I use on the horses is toxic, and I'm not putting it on a milking doe's udder!
