I appreciate my sweet Nigerian doe so much more

now that I have this husky pygmy around.

Mia is so.... petite and sweet... gentle.... never tries the fence, never acts aggressive at all...

Betty Boop (the pygmy) has horns, shes thick.. FAT even, and head butting everything... trees, the goat house, everything.

Mia hasnt messed with anything, her pen was perfect for her...

the pygmy... we already had to replace a fence post because the other one was shorter and not deep enough to keep her from knocking it loose!

I LOVE Nigerian Dwarf goats..... the jury is still out on Pygmys... but I dont think I will like them nearly as much as the NDGs

Just typing out loud...

thoughts? ideas?

I have Gretta who is a pygmy and her babies Frankie & Flossie and their bio-dad is Nigerian Dwarf. I love them all...all 3 have different personalities and have their ups & downs. Right now Gretta's down is that she is attacking any visitors we have...better than a guard dog. The twins down is that they jump on cars. The ups on all of them is that they make me smile & laugh every day

I think the issue is more horns vs. no horns than nigerians vs. pygmys! (although I admit I prefer the ND's) I have had nigerians with and without horns, and pygmies with and without horns. The goats with horns are almost always the dominate, destructive bullies. I have now gone down to a totally hornless herd

I don't think it's the breed either or the horns, I think each goat is different just like kids. I have both breeds with & without horns & my old herd queen was pygmy with horns & never butted anything! I have a pygmy wether with horns now & he's one of our most lovable sweetest goats! He's doesn't butt either although he likes to rub his head on the trees but so do our hornless goats of either breed.

I love the nd's too! They are the sweetest things ever. But I have to admit the one and only doe that I have with horns is more of a brat than the others. She also has the greatest personality and courage.
