I think I'm getting a goat!

I'll be getting a call tonight or in the morning to find out for sure. This is a goat in milk now. Just a grade doe, but she'll do. It's raw milk!

I've had goats before, so I'm not a complete newbie, but I'll probably still have questions sometimes.

We're still looking for goats so we can get a second one. I want 2 so I can stagger breedings and have a more even supply of milk the year around. She won't be lonely for long.

Update. The man called and told me to come get two nubians. One has been getting milked already, and the other has had a kid weaned off of her this past week.

Which means both can be milked now, and I'm wondering if I should milk both.

I've only ever had one milk goat at a time, and I'm trying to remember breeding seasons. My mother milked a herd of goats for years and she staggered the breedings to even out the milk production.

When I had pygmies they just ran loose together in a herd and were like having puppies around LOL. I never milked them.

If it were me, I would milk both for the summer. Any extra milk would become mozzarella for the freezer. Then as early as you get a heat (probably late August or early September) I would breed one. The other I would wait until early February and stay right on top of her heats because she might only have two or three before spring. Hope they do well for you!
