Fks????????

A doeling who was born yesterday morning, was doing fine when we went to bed last night. This morning she was cold and not standing. I brought her in and cuddled her in bed for a while then took her out to try to nurse. She can't stand and her head just wobbles anytime she lifts it. From looking around on the internet, I'm thinking Floppy Kid Syndrome. Does that sound right? Do farm stores carry Thiamine? I have the Penn G and B complex. Also, when she couldn't nurse, we milked the doe and tried bottle feeding, but she wouldn't take it. I know she was nursing last night and up on her feet with the other kids, (different dam).

I'd give her a big shot of the multi-B until you can get thiamine from a vet.

Also BoSe if you have it.

Here's a link to a good article:

If she were mine I'd treat her with BoSe for possible WM.. but also treat her for FKS too. I'd be treating her with Pepto-Bismol & B12. (I thought Pepto? when I heard it...but this year we had our first ever floopy kid... I gave her 6 cc's 3 x's a day. PLUS 1 cc of B12 & 1/2 cc of BoSe. Then 1/2 cc of B12 the next day. (I only gave BoSe at 1/4 cc every other day) HOWEVER I tried baking soda & got no improvement. Within hours of the pepto, she began to imporve. I did the pepto everyday until she was not just better, but totally back to normal. Good luck, it's so hard emotionally to have a wee one sick. Keep her warm.. if she isn't able to nurse, you will need to tube her until she is stronger.

Well I went to get a drencher. Had to go 40 miles to find an open feed store on a Sunday that had one. I left her in a box in the kitchen under a heat lamp. When I got home she was standing and looking around. So I took her out to Momma and she immediately started nursing. I'm thinking she was just too cold. But I still gave her the BOSE and B complex. Thanks for the advise.
