Talking It's Day 149 and we have a baby!

My baby had a baby! I believe it's a little buckling...cute as a button. I took the week off work next week to be here for the births...I guess I didn't need to for her LOL. I haven't seen him drink yet and she's not very encouraging to him to do so. His cord is still real long...should I tie that off or did I just get to him before she was finished with him and she'll do it? There was a large puddle of what I assume is afterbirth so I guess it's just one for us. But that's fine...we're thrilled. Of course pictures are coming soon.

Dip the cord in iodine. (I'm assuming you have your birth kit.) Don't worry about cutting it.

I point the babies at the teat and help them get started. Not very patient on that point, am I?

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Do I dip the end of it since it's so long...or closer to the top? I must not be very patient either because I've been pointing in that direction too LOL. She does have milk so I'm wondering if I should just milk her a little and feed him a bottle?

Dip the whole thing all the way up to his belly. Do you have a place where you can confine the doe and kid and give them time to bond?

Awww, you beat me to it (or should I say your doe beat mine)! Still no babies here. I had so been hoping for at least a show of things to come this morning.

You've got a little cutie there.

Yes...we have them in a stall together. She stays with him, but still haven't seen him eat yet...I think we're going to milk her and try to bottlefeed him. Since we don't know what time he was born I want to make sure he gets his colostrum.

I had no idea she was this ready. I figured monday or tuesday. My 7 year old is the one that found them...she was so excited!
I still have my saanen girls yet to kid. I'm thinking they might be a few days behind Shiloh. I just didn't see the "love" between them and my buck like I did with Shiloh.

Yes... I definitely have my hands full! My little wether is doing much better today thank goodness. I have sent DH to TSC with a supply list and while I'm not sure if I'm dealing with cocci or not he is getting the di-methox for him anyway. I'm sure it's something I should have on hand.

Congrats!

Go ahead and offer him a bottle of colostrum. It will give him strength and energy to rut around for more and then you saw it go in.
When a doe freshens you should strip some colostrum out of each teat to be sure the plugs are gone.
Watch her as her mom is a vicious biter after freshening. Shiloh's twin is not and the rest of the family is not.

Let me know when the rest freshen and we can figure out a date for me to come and burn the kids if you are still interested.

How is her udder? Her twin's udder is just great.
