Question Colostrum Question

Can the colostrum kick in later when the doe is in milk? I am getting off color milk like you would get when you milk colostrum. Slightly thicker than milk. If she can why would it be kicking in again? Her baby is now 2 months old. I have been getting this colostrum looking stuff for maybe a week now. I have never heard of this happening before.

Are there any flakes or clumps? Is her udder hot or lumpy? Temp? Can you check for mastitis? If all checks out fine ,it could be that she has a high fat content in her milk, this changes during her lactation
When you leave the milk sitting over night does anything settle to the bottom?

I agree with Rose.

Mastitis, not colostrum or fat.

No temp udders not hot no lumps clumps or flakes. I have never had milk from her to sit over night because I have 2 kids consuming every last drop. Maybe I will keep a little and do that. I have a picky goat Rose that I noticed has been just really liking it lately. And she is PICKY! She only take certain nipples everything must be just perfect. Temp has to be to tee. You would think a little colder or hot wouldn't matter that much. Buck drink from any thing drink anything and anyway totally unpicky.

Wouldn't mastitis give you pink milk not yellow?

Mastitis can be subclinical and there can be no signs of it at all- off color milk (yellow or pink or whatever), thicker milk, clots, clumps, flakes, etc. are all red flags. Yellow, thicker milk to me at this stage would mean that there is infection (pus) in the udder =0(.

Not always, I'd say the type you are describing is more common. They can even have it and you not really notice anything more than the milk not lasting as long as it should. That is called subclinical mastitis.

I have heard that feeding kids mastitis milk will cause them to have mastitis when they kid. I don't know how true that is.

She does have a lot of cream I'd say like an inch or 2 on the top of the jar.
