bleeding around horn buds?

My wether was disbudded before I got him, but I'm noticing occasional bleeding around his little buds. I'm wondering if it wasn't done well and I need to have it redone or what?

Huh, when we he disbudded, like how long ago? Do you know? Does he still have the black scabs in his head?

Sometimes the skin around the bud blisters a little from the heat. He might be itching his head and the scabs from the blisters might be getting scraped off, which could cause bleeding. If mine blister, I usually put a little Bacitracin burn cream aroun the bud on the skin. This heals it up good.

Is there any sign of infection? Pus, hot skin, red color, etc...?

If he needed it redone, you'd probably know after the black scabs fell off. Odd shaped little horns would start growing. You just burn them off the same as the buds.

Mine bled when they were goofing off and knocked the scab off. It was not like a flowing blood..just bloody. I left it alone and it looked so much better the next day. I guess you should keep them dry...so don't put any salve or anything on it...unless its REALLY bleeding then you can put some blood stop or flour on it. That's what I was told when I freaked out about it.

If you have Wonder Dust, that stuff works fantastic to dry it up. Keep bugs out too.

The babies with burnt heads always manage to bop themselves on something and cause the scabs to bleed. As long as you're not seeing growth everything is probably ok. Also, when the scabs fall off it's likely you'll see even more blood.

Thanks y'all! And, it's nice to know I'm not the only new goat mommy that panics at the slightest sight of blood! ;0)
