Nature is amazing!

I had a doeling that got her leg hung up in the baler chain. I am not sure how long her leg was caught before we found her but it must have been long enough to cut off all blood to it for too long. It was swollen at the knee joint but there was no cuts or abrasions. She never did walk on it again and stayed in the barn and would not keep up or go out with the other goats. 5 weeks later I noticed a scab all the way round the knee joint and I put some Bag Balm on it. During the next week the skin started to seperate and I realized the leg was coming off at the knee joint. I bandaged it up to help hold the weight of it. 2 days before I was supposed to leave on a 2 week trip the leg came off, it self-amputated itself. Within 1 day she was up running with the other goats and keeping up better than she had in the past 6 weeks. I expected her to be dead when I got back from my trip due to infection but she is fine. The leg is healed up and she is doing great!! A human would have died!

Oh my goodness, I cringed when I read this. What a blessing for you and her. She deserves a very special treat, don't you think?

Wow, that is amazing. I was particularly interested in your post because I have a doeling that hurt her stifle (knee) playing. My vet checked her and it's not broken but he said she tore or badly strained the ligaments. She will not put any weight on it at all. She's just barely old enough to be weaned - I wanted to leave her with her mom another month - but if I take her mom and sister away (they've been penned up for 2 weeks now) or let them all out, I'm afraid she'll hurt herself worse. I don't know how I could splint or wrap a stifle joint to help support it. She's a sweet little girl and I'd give her away if someone wanted to work with her. She's 94% Boer but will go without papers.
Or if anyone has a suggestion - besides eating her...
