Goats nosing grain out of bowl?

So what is this all about? Do your goats ever take a notion to nose the grain out of their feed bowl? It does not happen often, but has happened ocassionally in all these years I have had goats. I hear a nose swishing around the bowl and the grain goes flying. Why do they do this? It seems to me to be a universal trait. I immediately jerk the offending goat right out of the stantion and send them packing. Just wondering if anyone else's goats do this

Yes, our main milker does this. If I forget her treat, or there's not enough BOSS, or she's in a prissy mood, then SWOOSH!

my main milker refuses to eat her grain out of a bowl. Luckily, we use an old washbucket mounted on a stand to put the bowl in (at the stanchion) - so these days I just dump her grain into the washbucket and skip the bowl completely. SHe's happy, I'm happy.

I laughed when I read this...just last night I put out the horses feed bowls with their nightly BOSS. Joey walks right up and puts his head down and snorts in bowl and all the seeds blew out...he looked at me like "now what?"
My little Flossie likes to take her grain bowl and pick it up an dump it all over...then she wonders why it's empty. Goof balls!!!

I have one doe that does that. I think she is looking for the grain parts that she wants then she moves to the next bowl.

Yep, it's called sorting. My does like the oats and corn and don't care for the finer ground soybeans. I have several does that would bounce their feed pans to sift the cracked grains out from the ground soybeans and mineral. I had to switch to a pelleted feed so they would get what they needed, and not just what they wanted.

Brats.

bounce their feed pans

that reminds me that many years ago we had to install paddles to hold the feed bowls in place, or else, the Togg crosses would use their bottom teeth to pry up the bowls to up end them. Glad to see I am not the only one with brats
