FF Standing Alone

One of my FF Nubians that is due any day now is acting strange. She is standing off by herself very quiet. At one point today she seemed to be sleeping standing up. I just went to check on her and she is still off by herself while everyone else is in the woods foraging. When I came in to the pen with some weeds she came right up to me like nothing was wrong and gulped them down.

Could this mean labor is close or should I be worried about something else being wrong? She also just started getting an udder this week. It looks a little unbalanced, one side is bigger than the other. Could this be a problem in the future, or now for that matter? My other FF's udder is filling out also but looks more uniform.

Thanks,
Tiffany

If she's heavy with kid she might just be getting less willing to haul her belly around. If she's eating her grain ration still and grazing, she should be ok. Check her ligs 2x per day and when she loses them, keep an eye out for babies within 12 hrs!

unbalanced udder can be a sign of mastitis. i would take a sample of the fluid and have it tested. if she has had her kids, don't let them nurse as this can be transmitted to her daughters.
a doe that is by herself, needs to get the temperature taken. do you have a due date on her?
what are you feeding her? remember, they need calcium rich diet in the last trimester to prevent hypocalcemia. if the body is low in calcium, it makes them tired. does your mineral has enough copper? how about selenium in your area? maybe now is the time to give her the bo-se shot .

Do you have a due date on her? That will tell a lot. If she is just starting to get her milk, I say she might just be filling all the ducts and not to worry to much about it. If she is a FF it is really hard to get Mastitis.
When mine are off on their own, I just watch for signs that they will be going into labor soon.
Make she she is getting enough good protein and Calcium

I don't have an exact date. Her previous owners said she was around 2 months bred when I bought her. The 14th would have been exactly 3 months from when I bought her. I think she is in early labot right now. She gets alfalfa pellets, oats, corn and boss. She is still interested in food if I bring it to her. She is also drinking. She has also had her bose shot. She is in the kidding pen right now. I tried to let her out this morning and she didn't want to go anywhere. We'll see.... might be another long night.

That's what they want you to think! My new goat, Alana, lost her ligaments on a Monday - kidded on a Saturday. Last year, my NubianX lost her ligaments three weeks before she kidded.

If your doe really lost ligaments three weeks before kidding she would be completely immobile after a short while. They need those ligaments to function properly and can only go with them in their 'soft' state for just so long. Ligs do soften, bend, and shift usually a week before kidding and can be hard to find on some does, especially if they are unshaved or overweight, and my guess is that's what happened.

If my does don't have kids after 12 hours after loosing ligaments, I go in to check, as it's usually a sign of things moving too slowly or a mispresentation.

I have HEARD of does losing their ligs and then regaining them if they force themselves OUT of labor due to stressful situations or health reasons. But the likelihood of them going back OUT of labor after already in is very unlikely.
