Raccoons killing kids?

Will Raccoons kill kids?
I went down to check the last doe due to kid and when I checked on our prevention babis one was laying in the pen dead and ripped up. She and the others had been fine when dad fed them at 3AM. Everyone drank well and nothing seemed amiss.
We have raccoons that have been stealing our kittens.
I know raccoons got to her but what I don't know is whether they killed her or not. She wasn't even a week old yet.

Anyone ever have kids get killed by raccoons?

I would think a big coon could kill a small kid. Coons are pretty tough animals.

I am so sorry, how sad.

No, I have never heard of raccoons killing kids. Coyotes are the only wild animal we fear that could take a kid.

I am sorry for your loss. What a shock to see this.... yes, I believe I have seen on t.v that racoons will kill small mammals. I've seen some racoons that were larger than my 25 lb. dog. They can be vicious, that's why they don't make good pets. I have had racoons go after my 25 lb peafowl, and my adult turkeys. If you didn't see any other tracks, I would bet it was a coon. I don't see another predator killing it's prey and leaving it, I don't think I've ever seen if coons will eat an already dead animal, but it just seems to coincidental to me...

There is no question that the raccoons tore her up. I just wasn't sure if they would have killed her or not. Their bloody paw prints on their lambar bucket and the fact that no other predator animal would have gone in there means it was a raccoon.
The easy life for the raccoons at the barn has ended.
I am just so sick about all of this. We are going to build a chicken tractor type set up for the remaining five prevention babies. The two smallest are back at the house in a playpen for now.
Lots to do before evening comes.
I am just so mad at this point.

I have a trap you can use for a while. Do you have barn cats that would get trapped?

Hee hee, quick way to train cats not to go in the trap is to soak them down with the hose. Cats don't like to get wet so they stay out of the trap.
