I have been breeding an raising Nubians for show for the last 10 years.
I know that Nubian milk weights, statically, are a little lower than say most Aplines or Saanens.
I have always loved saanens and I just purchased my first doe from Cheryl Landeck of Tradewinds Saanens last year and I absolutely love her.
Anyway back to my point. My doe is extremely large for her age (which being a purebred saaene, kinda surprised me because I had always heard that purebred saanens are genearlly smaller than the Americans). She freshened as a yearling (13 months old) about 9 weeks ago with a beautifully attatched udder. But my shock now is... she started milking an average of 7 lbs a day, which I was thrilled with out of a yearling. But now she's milking an extremely steady average of 10.5 lbs a day, and she's hit 11.4 lbs. Her udder isn't dropping and she's in great body condition. I was just wondering if this was normal for a yearling saanen.
And yes, I have checked my scales, I was begining to think they were off, but they aren't.
This isn't a problem at all for me, the more milk the better! But I just want to know if anyone else has had similar experiences?
You can see her on our website under our does page. Her name is Tradewinds RL Val's Vivacious.
