banding length of time question

I only had one buckling this year, lol, and I haven't had to castrate a buckling in many years prior because last year was all does, and that was my first year 'back'. Maybe my memory is fading (hey, I'm old, I admit it, lol) but I don't remember it taking THIS long for the sack to fall off after banding. I banded the buckling 3 weeks ago. The balls were down in the sack, and they are shrunken and 'petrified' feeling, as well as the sack itself being shriveled, thin and 'barely there',... BUT it IS there. It just hangs on, and shows no sign whatsoever of wanting to fall off. Could it be because they were rather large when I banded him, and in the course of shrinking the band just isn't small enough anymore to give enough pressure to the remaining sack? I can't remember this ever happening in the past. I seem to remember about 2 weeks it being a 'done deal' before.

Has anyone ever had it take this long?

What would you do. I've given some consideration to cutting the remaining sack off, but I don't want to chance a bleeder.

I banded 3 pygmy bucklings last year at 2 weeks of age so they were very small too & I am pretty sure it took longer than 3 weeks but my memory is fading too as I'm also getting old! HEHEHE! I wouldn't worry yet especially if everything else is normal for him.

Thanks backfourty. He is just fine in every other way, just them danged jewels refuse to leave. haha, maybe he's thinking if he hangs on to them long enough, they'll 'recover' from the gross injustice commited to them. LOL

I only ever found one set too, Don't know what ever happened to the other 2 sets, and we clean there houses & pen's daily. I'm sure he's fine I think some just take a little longer. I did check quite often to make sure they weren't red or infected or anything & all was fine.

I kidsitted a little buckling that we weathered. It was about a month ago. They are still on, and his were a pretty good size when done. I've heard some say that some of them take awhile to fall off. I don't think the band being stretched too far should be an issue.

Thanks both of you. You have helped set my mind at ease. LOL I guess I just don't remember right how long it usually takes.
