goat meat is good!!

my marine son shot the buck, the rest of us cut it up and cooked it. We had ribs and rump steaks, we had 12 here from the ages of 9 to 19 plus me, hubby and my mom. We ate at least 10 lbs of him, my kids ate him, too, and loved it!!!
I got my milker doe back from my neighbor, so I will have fresh milk in the morning.
Now I am more excited about the decision to raise goats. This buck was a dairy cross, so my meat goats will hopefully be just as good.
I am almost caught up on everything else, but after 4 days, it just seems so slow...
And now the best part.... My sons friend, JD, drove up with a NICE roll of Chain Link fence in his truck... you know the REAL Chain Link... about 50 ft in his truck... I was just kidding when I said it, but I told him where to unload it AND HE DID!!! He's bringing me up 2 more rolls next weekend!!! I guess they were left over from a job site!!! Can you believe my luck???!!??

goat meat IS good... MMMM. I put 44 lbs of it in the fridge from two dairy does I butchered, 16 1/4 lbs of it burger meat from all the 'spare' parts. Who wouldn't raise goats? Wonderful, efficiently produced fresh milk, home raised tasty meat in abundance, Manure to grow whopping tomatoes with, and their pasture looks kinda like a manicured park, hehe.

I used to have llamas and their manure wasn't that good... but I have already read where you all were putting goat manure in your gardens so I already have a plot made up!!!!! I put tomato and a couple squash in the first one, and we're working on the second one right now... the "plots" are actually old fridgerators with the doors taken off and dug into the embankment to hold up the hill and be a garden in 1!!
The buck was coming up on 2. He was an alpine cross. I was suprised at how much meat we got out of him...
Yes, this was the buck that stomped me... I can chuckle about it now. That morning I had gotten a text from my sis asking me if "I've ever had one of those days that nothing goes right," that she's had a bad day, and I texted back to her "does getting attacked by a goat count?" And I guess she laughed for an hour or more.
He was actually the first animal I've ever watched the 'killing process'. I have always stood way away or have been in the house.
My father in law has loaned us a meat grinder until we get our own, I haven't gotten the burger ground up yet, but soon...

Good for you! That mean ol boy got what he deserved! I don't mind eating the ones that are mean or I don't like it's the cute, sweet ones that get me! It is real tasty though I will have to admit.

Here is an article on how I process game meats. It works just as well for goat and feral hogs. You might wish to try it. Ed
