Trailering goats / making them comfortable...

Hi,
I will be trailering my 3 goats in a box stall in my horse trailer, and had planned on giving them Nutri-Drench before we go. (It will be a two-day trip / 1400 miles!).

Is there any other precautions I should take? I will have Vit B Complex injectable with me, as well as Banamine.

Thanks! Jill

Wow, that's a long trip! I don't envy you, I don't even like going into town much anymore.
Probios paste.
Electrolyte paste or powder to add to water.
You can either take several gallons jugs of the water they're used to, or start adding a little jello or some kind of slight flavoring so that if you use water from sources along the way, they'll be more inclined to drink.
A first aid kit, in case of injuries. (Vet wrap, etc.)

There's a thread about this at dairygoatinfo.com.

I'm going to be moving our goats back up to Missouri from Texas soon.

I'll be doing a fecal and worming if necessary about a week before we go.

Make sure everybody's up on vaccinations.

Find out if you need a vet exam and documentation before you get on the road.

I'm going to Tractor Supply to get one of those rubber horse mats to go on the floor of the trailer, then put down a deep layer of hay.

I think we're going to start very very early in the morning so we won't be on the road in the heat of the day.

On flavoring the water (because often goats and other animals don't want to drink water that doesn't taste the same as at home), you can use a little bit of vinegar. It's good for them, too. Just use maybe a tablespoon per bucket-full.

Yes! I WILL be adding the goats onto the Interstate Health Certificate that my vet needs to issue for our horses.

Good idea to booster vaccines.... I only ever give CD&T (I only have adult goats)....is there any other I'm not aware of?

We are bringing 200 gallons of water from home for the horses and goats will get that, as well.

Trailer is already matted; will be laying down deep shavings with straw over top. Chickens will be up in the nose..., so the goats will have the company they are used to...

Worming; also excellent suggestion! I usually give Moxidectin (Cydectin) orally by buying a tube of horse Quest dewormer and giving each 100 lb goatie a 300 lb horse-dose...does that sound right?

Anything to bring along in case one DOES get stressed/overheated? I know the B vit. is good for appetite and rumen function....

Had to laugh.... our black bunny is going up in the nose of the trailer, plus our tomato plants that we started in pots here in Texas. Where we are going, they haven't put gardens in yet, and we'll be bringing ours with us!

I'm wondering if the Health Cert I got in January is still good or if I need another one.

Rose, from what I am told, the Health Cert is only good for 30 days.

So....you're putting the BUNNY in with the TOMATO PLANTS...... who do you think will win in the end?
