Baby with Funny Poo

I have a baby that is about 40 hours old. Her mother rejected her at birth. I forced the mother to feed her for the first 24 hours. Then this morning, mom began feeding the baby on her own (probably because she knew I was going to make her anyway). This afternoon, mom started acting more motherly, licking, and talking to the baby. BUT, mom is not cleaning baby's bottom and the baby has a yellow mucous looking poo stuck to it's fanny. Is this a normal poo for a new baby? The baby does not act sick. Since mom is more motherly, the baby is more active and eats well.

What do you think? I hate to interfer too much since mom is finally acting better. Suggestion?

As TennesseeMama said it is normal, if mom is not cleaning the bottom you can help her out. If that stuff builds up and dries it can block the kids poos. Get some warm mildly soapy water and clean its bottom and then put some vasaline around its little butt and on the fir. That will help you to keep it clean if mom continues not to clean it, (some moms are just that way) and she may start after a day or so.

Ditto on the normal poo. Is the doe a FF, maybe she just doesn't know everything if she is very young or a new mom. Glad she's coming around with her baby.

Thank you. Will try the cleaning and vaseline. I will gladly clean the baby if mom will feed her and love her.
