Boer buck over myotonic doe?

Hi y'all:

I've been looking around for awhile about this but haven't found a clear answer.

Is it safe to breed a boer buck over a myotonic doe?

I'm talking about breeding for meat production. I've never seen a myotonic first-hand, so I'm not clear about how big they are.

I was looking over the tennesseemeatgoat website, and she recommends breeding a TMG buck over boer %age does, but doesn't say why.

Thanks,
Suz.

I have Myotonic and Boer goats. When I cross the two, I ALWAYS breed a Myotonic buck to a Boer doe. Boers are bigger than Myotonics, and you can cause birthing problems if your Myo doe has big kids. The resulting kids to the cross, I do breed back to a Boer buck. It is just much safe that way. Myo's can be as much as only half the size of Boers. They are small, but in most cases really meaty. I do like the crosses that they produce. The kids end up a bit smaller than pure Boers, but have more muscle mass in most cases. All depends on the quality stock you are using
