Pasturing Sheep with Goats?

wondering if we can sucessfully pasture Katahdin sheep with our goats, especially the Ram Sheep with the Buck goats. we have an area in the woods with poison ivy that we need to eradicate and would be helpful if they could run together instead of having to fence into 2 seperate areas. Pleas E-Mail me at revaughn@centurytel.net Thanks: Rog

Read the post above about scrapies in Michigan. Nearly all the goats who have been positive for scrapie were housed with sheep at one point. I know for myself I won't buy from someone who has sheep on their property.

Plus, bucks will breed ewes and rams will breed does, giving you abortion storms.

I would keep them seperated, or at the very least only run the female herd together. Vicki

Is that a fact? I had never heard that before. How often can one expect this to be a problem - is it rare, or is it something that theoretically could happen, but rarely does?
