I am so sorry that she is sick... I hate to even bring this up, is this a case where you should be ready for an emergency c-section if the need arises?

Yeah, hypocalcemia is what it sounds like. I lost a doe due to that b/c I didn't catch it in time. Get her calcium deficiency treated immediately and make sure to continue with Nutri-drench or just Propylene Glycol if you can get it, to help with the ketosis. You must fix the first problem which is the hypocalcemia though or she'll continue to get worse. Good luck. Read the article that Rose posted. It is a good one.

I did read that . I and the vet think it's not that . her temp was good up till now. She eats alfalfa mix hay and get alfalfa pellets. This is her first kidding and she's not big at all. The vet said it would be rare for a fist freshner.I think i will try to calcium drench her again,, it couldn't hurt.It just makes no sense. I think if it were polio we would have seen some improvement? BOY... this sucks. She could have any number of things if you look on the internet long enough. Thanks guys...any other ideas

have you wormed her before she was bred? severe anemia wouls also cause a drop in body temperature. what about her copper? do you have a mineral out that has enough in it?
is she getting enough sunshine and vit d? vit d deficiency prevents absorption from calcium. i would give her some vit A,D+E.
try to keep her warm, if nessecary put a blanket on her. is she still drinking enough? keep her hydrated, if she still drinks, put some electrolite in the water.
if she does not drink, give her sq lactated ringer solution.
i think with listeria you would see her abort. do you have a due date on her?
i hope you can keep her going until she has her kids.

Did the calcium drench. You would think it was posion the way she reacts.
I have seen her drinking over the last 2 days.I put a sweatshirt on her to try to keep her warm, it's cold tonight.
I don't have a due date ( long story.. took her back from someone) she was with a buck for several weeks. She has a small bag.
I wormed her and gave selemim before she left here in Nov.
I do think I have a copper problem. They get minerals but I think it's my hard water.Wanted to wait till they kidded before trying to bolus.
Everone pray she makes it through the night. I'll get the vet again in the morning if she does.Poor little Pie Pie.

OK, with goat polio, the temp. would be going up, not down. Listeriosis does not cause a drop in temp. either and the symptoms of Listeriosis are unmistakeable, trust me. You need to look for something that causes the temp. to drop. I know what your vet said and by all means continue his treatment with the B Vitamins, they'll only do good no matter what. However, I'd also continue with the hypocalcemia and ketosis treatment. Did he tell you why he felt it wasn't that? Did he run any tests? I'm always cautious about vet opinions about goats b/c most vets are just guessing like the rest of us. It is difficult to find a good goat vet. Whatever happens, good luck to you. BTW, keep a very close eye on your goat for bloating. It is many times what kills them. A goat who is off feed can bloat quickly.

My heart goes out to you! I know how helpless situations like this can leave one feeling.
Two thoughts that came to my mind were Johnes disease or hardware, I’ve lost goats to both.

Temp dropping could be her body shutting down, especially since she hasn't eaten in several days. Can you get her to nibble on some leaves? I would keep up with the yogurt and probios. If she is laying down you could try a heating pad. Is she showing neuro symptoms? I had a doe who got ill about a month ago, she couldn't get up for about a week, started with a high temp, then it dropped..only thing that kept her temp up was a heating pad, kept it just over 100. I did lactated ringers SQ, yogurt, pen, B1, Dex and was able to get her to nibble leaves. Every morning when i went out i expected her to be dead. She pulled through...don't give up! Vet thought mine was listeriosis at first, then said viral encephylitis. Not sure what your doe has, but keep up with the TLC....good luck!

Well.... she still here this morning!!!
Her temp is still low but she is still drinking and after her shot torture this morning she eat some HAY!!!!!
Talked to a different vet she said keep doing what your doing. The fact that her temp was that low and she is still up is a good sign. She has a swaetshirt on and i am putting a hot rice bag over her shoulder under it to help keep her warm.
Drenched her with somm yogert and nutra drench / she likes that!
Vet said it will be a long haul to get her to delivery but thinks if we induce it will be a disaster in the making.
So... We will treat for everything including hypocalciuma(sp), hope she doesn't bloat and hold our breath untill she kids
thanks eveyone

I have no thoughts, but lots of hopes and hugs.
I have already learned so much reading threats like this one. I sure hope all goes well! I wonder how much more the vets could learn from reading, lol. They are frustrating.
