Slow Kid!!!

Well, so far we've had 7 doelings and 2 bucklings. We did lose one buckling so that leaves us with only 1. Anyway, yesterday, we had a first timer give birth to a, 8.5# doeling. She had trouble pushing her out. I had to do some pulling and once I got the front legs extended and the head halfway out and cleaned off, she was able to push it the rest of the way out. It was a bit traumatic for her though. The baby didn't take too long trying to get on its feet and look for its first meal. However, Mom just ran in circles around the pen to keep the baby away from her. She wouldn't let her nurse. I had to hold her against the wall to allow the baby to eat. We did that a few times and now she doesn't run from the baby. She lets her nurse and is even showing interest in her. We've been going out and getting the baby up to eat. Here is the thing, she is 1 1/2 days old and she isn't lively at all. We came home and found her standing with her back arched. She isn't taking the initiative to eat. I don't know if she thinks her Mom won't let her or what. When I put her up to Mom, she goes after a teat and Mom isn't trying to get away from her anymore. So, why does she act stupid? Did she go too long with her Mom refecting her? We've been making sure she eats throughout the day. The twins that were born about 5 hours earlier are now jumping around and everything. This little doe just doesn't seel right. What would you do about this?

Maybe a some Vitamin B to help get her going? I'm a newbie...but that is what I would try

Maybe give her some Nutri-Drench as well. If you don't have that a few cc's given orally of molasses, cooled black coffee & whiskey or brandy or such (not beer or wine) mixed in thirds will jump start her.
Sometimes it takes these kids a day or two...the hunched over says she needs something
Be sure she's not cold but it sounds like mom has spooked her. Keep going with holding the dam, she should perk up. Keep us posted!

Well, she is still alive and she'll nurse if we take her out of her corner and put her next to Mom. I already gave her a 1/4 cc Bo/Se shot and 1 cc Nutridrench. 1 cc of Bo/Se would be for a 40# goat so I don't want to do that. I thought about Vitamin B. That would be the only thing left to try. I don't want to put too much Nutridrench on a new baby's tummy either. I don't know how much would be too much of that. She just doesn't have any bounce to her like most 2 day old kids. She's really strange. The Mom is doing fine with her now. She talks to her and lets her nurse and such. I don't know. I guess time will tell. I'll try the Vitamin B shot. You never know. That might just help her a lot. Thanks.
