Horn spurs

Hello All,

It’s me again, yep, here I am asking yet another question.

Just today noticed Holly (almost 11 months old) has a horn spur, bout a half inch long.
Everything I have read says it needs to be burned again.
I don’t think I can handle that, I know it’s gonna hurt and she is gonna scream a lot.

Do think I can handle the kids getting dehorned, but that is different.
They are so young and don’t know. But this goat is almost a year old.

Anyone have any advice for me?
These are milk goats and I need them to trust and believe in me, this is going to push that trust to the limit.
Am I over reacting? Do goats forgive easily?

Kris

Half an inch long? Phhfftt! Don't worry about it! She may knock it off headbutting with other goats - there'll be some blood, but she'll survive. I've got a few with scurs that long or maybe a bit longer. I find that once they've knocked them off, they tend not to grow back as big.

If it does grow bigger, and it bothers you - band it with an elastrator elastic. (preferably not in the summertime, because of flies)
