Question Any ideas on what this is? added pictures

My baby Flossie (8 weeks old today!) has an area right above her hock where the hair has come off and it looks scaly on the edges. It's about an inch long. Some kind of dermatitis maybe? Should I put anything on it? I have Molley's Marvelous Salve...or neosporin. Thanks!

This is the best I could do...

Sounds like something we around here call barn mites. In cold climates it tends to happen around this time of year. As the weather gets warmer the mites come out of the bedding and nibble on legs. If you can purchase some Schreiners Herbal Solution that works great, If not a spray on Iodine will help.

It may be the barn mites that are causing the skin condition - judging by the pictures you posted the condition itself is what's called scurf, or scurfy skin (dry, itchy, crusty, scaley or scabby skin with hair loss). So you would need to treat for the mites and treat the skin condition as well with a soothing emollient.

oh boy...now that I think of it they are doing a lot of chewing on their feet. No hair loss or anything...they just seem so itchy. The idea of having bugs nibble on their feet & legs breaks my heart So I guess I should do some major cleaning out of bedding this weekend. UGH. My husband already thinks I'm a clean freak...he's the one who will be freaking when I tell him I need help replacing all the bedding. Is there anything else I can do? I just got some of the DE today...I also have barn lime, does that do any good? Thanks for all the help!

I would use both the barn lime and the DE, and maybe some seven / poultry dust. Leave the stall empty as long as you can so it will dry out as much as possible. I would dust the goats with the poultry dust too. Hope for a sunny weekend.
