Semi-rookie questions - staph and horn buds

I've had goats a couple of years now, counting my practice pygmies. There are a couple of issues that we are having trouble with now that I just don't know what to do exactly.

1. I have the second case of staph on the outside of the udder. Different doe this time. It's responding to the chlorhexaderm, but would it clear faster with an antibiotic injection? If so, which antibiotic?

2. My helpers disbudded our two doelings while I was out of town. Now, their horns are growing. I thought at first that it was just going to be one horn out of the four that they burned, but now it's looking like all of them. We have the X-50 iron. I need advice about what to do now that we have horn nubs on month old doelings.

Thanks!
Alice

Staph is everywhere...does with staph dermatitis are usually also having a defficency somewhere else, because staph, just like in us, hits the immune defficient. I vaccinate for staph here, with Lysigin...and I honestly, now that I have my copper/iron issues under control wonder if I really need to continue vaccinating...but sometimes it's hard to break very old habits. Jeffers sells lysigin.

Redisbud. This time take your hoof trimmers and cut off the horn buds that have regrown. The first 15 seconds or so of burning is doing nothing more than burning hair and skin, take off the iron, use your finger to pick off that hair and skin and also pop the cap off. Now burn again, this time burning a copper ring around the horn bud. Most folks burn the first burn, make a pretty copper ring of burnt skin and call it a day Now that you aren't really disbudding but dehorning, you might want to place ice in a ziplock ontop of the head and make sure you spray with fural really well, since you will be burning for a longer period of time. Make sure the iron is red hot and burns a piece of wood instantly when placed on it. Let it heat up during sides of the head and babies. Vicki

Thanks, Vicki, we'll get to work on both issues this week.
