Clipping a goat?

Any advice?

My nigerian buck is absolutely miserable -- we've had temps in the 80's, and this is AZ, so it's not likely to get cold again. He lays around panting like a dog a lot. He's got more hair than a collie dog and last year, it was in the 100 degree range before he finally shed most of his hair.

I'm tempted to get my old horseclippers out and have at him. He's not going to be shown, so I'm not too worried about looks, but I've never clipped a goat before -- any advice/suggestions? I'll need to get a new blade for the clippers; what size blade is best?

I've clipped my doe - I just like the look of a clipped goat

I used dog clippers with a number 7 blade. My doe was a pygmy, and she stayed fairly still for it! I just put a collar & leash on her & clipped away.

Go for it!!

I would use a 7 or a 4. Hair actually protects from sun, so be sure you leave enough on his back to protect him. Maybe a 4 on the back and a 7 for the rest.
