Phew... what's that smell!

Here is how morning chores went this morning....

I was on the way to the barn when I noticed a stinky smell. It was even stinkier in the barn. Luckily, I had things set next to the door for this mornings feeding. I grabbed them and did chores. When I came back I saw Shadow halfway (width wise) into the barn and a big poofy tail pointed at him.... yes, you guessed it a skunk. Mistachio and Shadow have been harassing it and I had to beat on the walls to keep away from the door.

If it's still there this evening I guess Jay will get to target practice on it. I'm not happy about that -- I wish I had a livestock dog to chase it off. But, Cassie has EDD of either today or 3/20. I was going to put her in the barn today just in case she was to kid but that's not an option now...

I don't know when skunks start with spring babies but I better not have any when I get home this evening....... I have the stall setup for Cassie and a doghouse in it for the kids... knowing my luck it will be full of skunk babies!

Thats funny...well not funny but.... I am having the very same problem.
The goats have spooked a skunk twice now and the smell in my milk room has been aweful! It seems we have had a skunk living under the milk room and it comes into the hall in the barn to steal cat food. We made a new birthing stall near the milk/vet room so it would be handy to vet supplies. The skunk sticks its head out and the goat charges the gate and the skunk sprays while still half under the milk room. (this is an asumption as the smell is mostly in the milk room and not the hall.) We are talking two feet from the hole under the milk room from the gate to the kidding stall.
DH loves the smell. YUCK!
