First kids of the year!!!
Last year we only had one goat give birth. I didn't realize just how "out of practice" I was until Duece (our GP/A LGD) went NUTS this morning trying to get in the lot with the goats. I was backing up the truck and I was wondering, "What the heck...?" and saw Evan holding up a kid. Duece gave us a scare, she was so excited. She ate the afterbirth, licked the kids' butts clean, licked Babe. She was just SO happy. Our alpine Dusty started attacking everyone. (Even ran up behind me to attack me while my back was turned) I was really REALLY excited about the kids because Babe is my best milker and they were out of PennyRoyal, my spotted lamancha buck. I got a little milk white buckling, and a BEAUTIFUL black doeling with a white sploch on one side and a white spot on the other. I am so happy!!! I'm so worried about Babe. I've been worming the heck out of her in the last month. She's had mineral. She's just so thin and scruffy. She's pened in with the kids and she has clean water, a bucket of feed, a bucket of mineral, and a cradle of hay. She's looks very confused. Her milk is NOT coming in the way it did last time. I feel so darn stupid. They were fluffy when I first saw them. It didnt even OCCURE me to dip their navels. *dumb joy* *dumb joy* I'm worming Babe again tomorrow. I'll give her probios.
I am SO happy with my two new kids, and I am SO worried about Babe and DARN I feel so STUPID!!!! grin.
WHAT do you do if you think a goat might have foot rot??? I bought a horse with foot rot once and had to do a foot soak everyday, but that's been over a decade ago.
Yeah....I know.
Thanks all!
