Lost a kid today

Well I usually hang out on the poultry forum but I have raised goats for years. I though someone might have an answer to this. I had a Saneen doe kid last night with twins, got up this morning to check on her and found she had twins during the night. One little doe in excellent shape, but the little buckling was dead. He was fully developed, she had cleaned him, but he did not make it for some reason. I wonder what happened to him? She is an older doe (6 yrs) and this is her 4th kidding, she is an experienced, excellent mother. The doeling is doing great, already out exploring the field, usually the kids hang out in the barn till they are a few days old at least!

Sometimes it just happens. He may appear ok on the outside, but it is possible he had internal problems. It could have happened during birth, but I would think that if she cleaned him up, he was probably alive at birth, but died shortly afterward. I'm sorry you lost him, but you have your wonderful new doeling to love.

I can't add anything different from what the others have said, just wanted to let you know I'm sorry. I really hate when that happens.

It really could of been different things. If she was lacking in Calcium, I have see goat go down from that, also, could she still had another baby in her? Was she just to worn out from the delivering and the stress. I am so sorry about your loss. It really just might be a mystery to her death.
