Looks like I will be starting PG watch...

Well I wasn't sure if Cassie was this month or next. She's huge and tonight at evening chores I saw some discharge.... last year I never caught any signs I just went by the due date Emily gave. So I'm trying to decide if I should pull her out of the group -- I ran out of warm weather and didn't get the stalls cleaned out so I really would prefer she went in the pole barn. I'm glad I decided to put bedding down today just in case in there.

I saw Guy and her together on Oct. 2 and the book I have says that would be a 2/28 kid date....

Emily, did Cassie ever give you any signs???

Hmmmmm, no, just a full udder and no ligaments.
I'd say from that pic that she *could* go on the 2/28 due date....but that she could also wait and kid on the 3/20 due date that we discussed on the phone tonight...... From that picture I'd bet on the later date....but pictures and goats can be misleading....She is just yanking your chain not telling you which till the last moment. Does she look any different than in the picture now a week later? Oh, she also dug nests when she started into labour.

Well she looks bigger to me - I will try to get a pic tomorrow. Her udder looks fuller. She does not want me anywhere near the backside to check ligs. I would like to shave it but I fear her getting up on the stand.
Tonight for bed check she was not up to greet me - waited for me to come in before she got up. She had a nice little spot dug out for the night. She probably will keep me guessing and then when I'm tired of the PG watch she will kid!

I'm tellin ya, I can emphathize with your pain. I have several goats that are having a ball yanking my chain this year. For me it's cause I pasture bred though. I like it in the fall, but danged if I like it at this time of year. It's the first time I ever pasture bred rather than specifically taking each doe to the buck. I'm positive after this spring that I will go back to the 'dairy' method even though I'm primarily working the meat side of the goats. At least as long as we only have the 16 does. As the numbers grow I might have to go back to pasture breeding, but it sure makes for a nerve wracking spring. Especially when you have such 'fun loving' goats. LOL

Tami thats there job in life huh!?

Last yr everyone went to kidding pens they must have been in them a week before they kided. But that was only3 does.
It was an awful mess!!! I picked up berries, top dressed straw...sometimes when someone would squat to pee I put a plastic pitcher under her just to keep from extra urine build up. Yes Im crazy but only did that if I happened to be in their anyway with said pitcher.
I just had 4 does deliver since Sat. This time they stayed out till the very last minute. Two even kidded outside under cover with the rest of the gang. Soon as babies got cleaned up they went to kidding pens.
The one Nubian discharge off & on for several weeks, normal for her. One FF Boer had an udder foralmost a month.

LOL yeah Gail, and they do it so well I almost hate to burst their bubble and remind them they're driving me crazy, they look at me with such love and sweetness as they hold on to those little bundles.... and I wouldn't really have it any other way, but sometimes you just have to shake your head, and complain to the only people in the world that can understand... ya'all. LOL

I had a young buckling with the group since October so even though I caught them in action on Oct 2 I wasn't sure if I should count it as a success. Until a few weeks ago I was fretting if anyone was even PG! I only had 2 goats kid last year and I missed both! I had Cassie penned and was checking and still missed it! And now that I'm working there is a huge window for me to miss it. If it's 2/28 I'm off the 29th and if she holds out until 3/20 I will be off for spring break -- here's to my wishful thinking she might work with me!
