Question Trying to figure out how pasteurizer works

I bought a used pasteurizer last year, but it doesn't have a manual. Kidding season is fast approaching so I need to figure out how to use this.
It's a Farm Master - Sears, Roebuck and co

It has an insert that I assume the colustrum or milk goes into and a knob to turn to it on. But no temp setting or timer....

I'm going to do an internet search but I thought someone hear might be able to help me out.

TIA.

I think that's the same one that I have. A friend of mine gave me mine
last year, no manual so I just played it by ear. Mine will hold about 1 1/2 gallon. I just put water the first time and turned it on. Worked perfect. So
then I put my milk in. Oh forgot to say it will turn its self off when reached
temp. Hope this helps. Just try with water first and you will know. Tadpole

Thanks - that's a great idea. Did you use it for colustrum and milk?

Chances are it is only a pasteurizer. (We have something similar, probably a newer unit) Generally these should be used ONLY for pasteurizing. Going off the top of my head, I think it heats the milk up to about 165F. That temp is too warm for your colostrum....will turn it into useless pudding.

You will have to do the stovetop/ thermos method for the colostrum.

You should test it with water in the milk container. (I am assuming that you have a removable milk container, and then the outer shell (unit) that when the milk container is removed, you can see the heating element.) Set it up for a trial run with water in the milk container. When it shuts off, immediately put a thermometer in the milk tank and test the temperature of the water. Many of the units that I have come across have a small hole in the control housing that is attached to the tank. It is usually about 1/4" hole, and behind that is a srew that will allow you to adjust the temperature if necessary.

What you described is that I have. It seems when you turn the know 1/2 way then you have to push all the way through to make a complete turn. Looks like I have a date with water and a thermoter!

I have that model, too. I bought it on eBay, sans manual. However, a kind person sent me the manual scanned. If you want me to send it to you, just PM me with your email address!

(Off to look for it!)

Edited to add: I found it. Let me know if you want me to email it to you.
