What would you do with an infertile buck?

Besides the obvious of ship him/shoot him.

Keith is our first Nigerian Dwarf baby and he is 22 months old. In the past year I've bred him to 7 or 8 does and only one has taken (and I did have an escapee buckling at that time, so it's possible I guess that could have "done the job" (don't worry, it was a grade mini mancha doe!). He's an awesome looking buck with a great pedigree and his full brother is doing extremely well on the show circuit (I don't show). But none of that matters if the little swimmers aren't swimming! I don't know anyone to collect him to test and the vets around here aren't that goat smart - my horse vet said, look at the obvious - I bred that many does, no pregnancies, but they all took the next breeding to a different buck.

So, what would you do with a pretty buck with a sweet temperment that's of no use? I just had my MIL put an ad on the hospital/clinic computer ads, as there is a LOT of Asian and Indian cultures that work there, knowing some of those cultures like bucky meat. I don't want to just shoot him, altho someone on another goat board mentioned using him for dog food, which we could do as we are low on the venison we feed in winter. Or seeing it's winter and no mud or flies, is it worth a shot to band him? Will he loose the buckiness? I know you can castrate a stud horse/donkey and they usually turn into sweeties with no desire to breed, but goats?

Appreciate the advice!

i can understand your dilemma. first , i would check if he gets all his minerals and vitamins. if you have a microscope, put some semen under and see if you have life semen. best timing to do this is after he did bred a doe, get some semen with a gloved hand out of her and put on a slide. this is how i test my bucks. if he really is a dude, you can use him as a teaser buck or sell him as a teaser buck if you don't want to butcher him.

Unhappy

He sounds like he would make a nice pet but that's about it. I wonder if he is lacking some that is making him unbreedable?
