Teaching goats and cheesemaking

One of my former art and speech students is now 22 years old, and we've kept in touch off and on. I called him a few weeks ago and caught him between jobs and sort of lost. I told him that I'd keep him employed part time if he went back to college for his last semester. He was able to register late, and I paid for his tuition, which he will work off.

What is so wonderful about this is that he *loves* the goats and is fascinated with milking, making cheese, etc. He milks on the days he's here working, and he was really wanting to be here for Princess's delivery, but was in class. He got here before the navels were dry!

We made mozzarella yesterday, and he was SO proud! I've made cajeta and goat milk chocolate pudding, and he's tried my feta and hard cheese. We may make ricotta tomorrow, and chevre when I have enough milk on hand again.

He insulated our milk house and has come up with improvements and useful ideas. Wonderful young man.

He says he's learned more useful things in the weeks he's been working with us than he did in all of high school.
