Buck With Scours

I have a LaMancha buck who's about 8 months old who I just wormed for 3 days with Molly's Herbal Wormer for the first time. As of yesterday (the 3rd day of the worming) he's got very bad diarrhea, very dark in color. He's acting fine in every other way. I have not taken his temperature (sorry), but he's eating normally and drinking well also. No diet changes other than adding the wormer.

I had not done a fecal so don't know what his worm load was, but is it possible the scours are a result of the wormer? Or a heavy worm load passing through? Or should I now be looking for something else going on?

Thanks in advance,
Fauna

The herbal wormer was a change in diet! His gut just got condensed plant materials he isnt used too.

I would just give some probios and just hay for 24 hours and then check the poo.

I always clear up loose poo that way. I haven't had anything major go wrong, just a diet upset here and there.
Oh I always use probios when worming as working can alter the gut, herbal or other types.

Riverpines - Thanks, I do have some Probios on hand so will start him with some of that tomorrow (today ). Wish I'd had just done that right off the bat!

Fauna, are you doing fecals with your herbal wormer to be sure its working??
Missouri is harder to get herbal wormers to work that colder/dryer climates.

Emily, I haven't done fecals yet since I started on the herbals. I "just" got the herbals and started for the first time with this dosage. He had previously been wormed about a 6 weeks ago with Ivermectin. But since I saw roundworms in the stool of the Pyr who he shares the pen with, I assumed he'd also have worms and I don't believe Ivermectin gets the roundworms unless I'm mistaken.

Bottom line, guess I'd better get a sample to get into the vet if I can get out with all the snow we had last night! I don't do my own fecals (yet) so am lost there.

Sounds like you'll be on top of it. Be aware that Ivermectin has been proven not to work in many areas of Missouri.....so he could already have been wormy when you started the herbals. Herbals work best when you start with a mostly worm-free goat.
We have 7" inches of wet packing slick snow.....I am not going anywhere that I can help!
