First Kinder baby of the year! AND HE'S HUGE!!! (pics)

He was born ~8pm last night. I had to assist as he was not coming without help. He was waaaaaaaay too big even though I slacked off feeding feed about a month ago.

11" at shoulder and approx. 5-6lbs. Kinders should be much smaller and ~1 1/2 - 3#.

MONSTER.

He wouldn't have been born without me, in my estimation. Coulda gone real wrong... But! He's here! He's on his KNEES to nurse in the first pic. AND he has horn buds already!

Holy Cow! (no pun intended)
Could he be overdue, accounting for the size and horn buds?

Nah, sometimes a single gets it all. It's a fooler too because you think there are several in there? And then you just get a single...

I had an Oberhasli that had a 15lb buckling. I had to ease him out too. Well, ok. It was a tug-of-war with that one. And had to take the Oberhasli in to make sure there wasn't any problems. And she wasn't a FF like this one...

Good grief! He's a big 'un, all right. Probably a good thing you were there to give mama a hand. Congrats.

We had our fist Kinder birth yesterday too! 7.5# buck. I see if I can post pics later.

Everyone says kinders are supposed to be small at birth, but we've never had one under 5 #s ?

Now, I thought that Kinders usually had twins, triplets or even quads.....I just went down to the barn to find my very huge Kinder 8 year old had just had a buck. Just one. I was shocked. He's just as big as the two Kinders born a week ago, but I don't think as big as in the op. ; )

I kept thinking there must be more....but there she is walking around eating....acting just fine. And he's just about dry. Hmmmm.....how do you KNOW there are no more? I "bounced" her and didn't feel anything. There was no afterbirth, but I can't count on that since the cats devour that in no time. We were in the barn for half an hour and she seemed done.

Kinders do usually have multiple births (twins or more), but they can and do have singles sometimes. And, as Gailann said, singles are often quite a bit bigger than multiples. My Kinders were well-fed, but the kids never weighed more than about three pounds at birth, and at least one was about half that. They were all healthy and vigorous and grew rapidly, just small at birth. Cute as the dickens, too, LOL! (One way I know they were well-fed was that my Ober X Boer doe had about 27 lbs. of nice healthy triplets on the same feed regimen. So I couldn't have been doing too much wrong!)
