Herd names

There was a post a while back about herd names, and it got me thinking.. I have registered my herd name as Sunny Daze Farm, although my first kids born under that herd name were born Dec. '07 and have yet to send in the paperwork. I am thinking I should have just registered it under Sunny Daze as this is shorter and leaves more room for goats name (plus sounds like less of a mouthful). Is is possible to change your herd name once you've picked one? (maybe for a fee)? If it is, I thought I should probably do this before sending off the paperwork...not sure the rules on it...maybe I am just being too picky, but thought it is now or never since I will be registering kids soon!

I really don't know. Never though about it. I'd just call ADGA and ask them. Then you'll know for sure.

You'll need to submit another herd name registration and pay the $10, otherwise, you'll need to keep the original name. Don't worry, lots of people change their mind - I have three herd names, only one of which is "active".

I was on the phone with them earlier this morning getting a few things straightened out and totally forgot to ask until I hung up the phone. Didn't want to call right back and sound like a total air head! I just sent them an e-mail

Thanks Doc M, i must have posted the same time as you. Good, I thought they might think I was being a little silly! I will go ahead and submit a new herd name then. I figured I may as well do it now, rather than wait and have goats registered under both...

Sunny Daze is a nice name. Good choice! Glad you can change it.

I just sent an email to ADGA about this topic. Haven't heard back yet. The rules say you can only register goats under 1 herd name. AGS said same thing but that they will let you buy a second name to protect it from future use but you cannot use it if you've already used another name.

I sent an e-mail to ADGA but haven't heard back yet, did hear back from NDGA and they said I don't have to use the "Farm" part of the name when registering goats and no need to register a new one. So that was easy! We'll see what ADGA says. Don't think I have registered a herd name with AGS yet, so should be good there. It gets very confusing keeping track of all these registries and their rules!!
