Who is in Texas?
I thought I would do the same as Patty did and find out if there were any new forum members near me. Also, you lurkers come out of hiding and show yourselves!
So who is in Texas?
Where in Texas?
What kind of goats? How many?
Anything else you want to add
I am an hour east of Austin and an hour west of Bryan-College Station. I am in Lee County near the cow town of Lexington..
eta: Oh, and I have 16 goats, 12 does due to kid starting February, 2 LaMancha bucks and 2 wethers. Of the 12 does, 9 are LaManchas, 2 are MiniManchas and 1 is Boer. I hand milk these gentle girls almost year round and use the excess bucklings for cabrito.

Center Point, TX in the Hill Country closest to Kerrville. Have Boer and boer cross goats 4 nannies and a Full Blood Billie. Babies due due any day. Also have California Red Sheep, Rabbits, Chickens and 7 Anatolian Shepherd LGD's (of which almost became 5 as two of them were fighting and Pi--ed me off greatly in the cold rain). Goats are for family and neighbors meat.
Am working on a project to isolate the Hair gene on Cal Reds (they were originally a Tunis vs Barbado cross) by selective breeding of Cal Red ewes (the ones which tend towards hair characteristics) to a registered Katahdin Ram. My goal is a breed of hair sheep that has great meat traits, tolerant of heat, and doesn't need shearing. Yes I could get most of that with just the Katahdin, but then I would lose the beautiful red color of the Cal Red. I will name the new breed - Texas Reds - what else???

I am in Jones county, about 25 miles north of Abilene. I have boers, though only the buck is for sure full blood. The others are mixed with nubian and spanish, though no telling how much. Two days ago I traded a goat I was going to cull in the spring for two management deer that I put in the freezer/gave away. I hated to lose the kids she was carrying, but my herd is better for it (she wouldn't let the others into the shelter!)
Because my buck has learned how to escape the electric fencing if the situation is not absoultly perfect, he is being sold. Today was the first time I have had an escape through electric that was not totally my fault, though i think I have that fixed. By next breeding season I should have most of my paddocks in field fencing anyway, so that is not a problem.

I am in Northeast Texas, about an hour west of Texarkana.
I have one nubian, one alpine, one saanen, one alpine/pygmy (all does) with one set of twins on the ground - boy/girl set out of my nubian, my alpine pygmy was due a month ago to kid, so I am watching her close, the other two are due one in march, one april.
I have an alpine/spanish buck, his wethered son (headed for the freezer soon)
And have high hopes for a nubian buckling from yarrow for my new herd sire.
My girls are just for us to have a supply of milk and meat.

We are in Field Store, Texas. About 50 miles NW of Houston.
We have Nubians and we make cheese.
We have 16 does and one lucky buck. My best guess is that 14 of them will kid this year, starting in mid to late February. ALL kids are for sale--get 'em while they're fresh.
We are members of the South Central Texas Goat Club and actually have a meeting today. It is a great resource, for anyone interested. It alternately meets in College Station and right here in Field Store (a happy coincidence for us.) The club gets in speakers to talk about everything from parasite management to disaster preparedness to dairying. We also host a dairy goat show every Spring in Hempstead. Again-- it's a nice way to meet other "goat folk".
ETA: This is actually BlueHeronFarm-- I accidentally posted on husband's login. http://blueherontexas.com/

We are located outside of Weimar, TX which is about halfway between Houston and San Antonio on I-10.
We currently raise Nubians and Saanen's. We currently have about 25 does due to freshen starting next month and 5 bucks.
We also belong to the SCTGC so we'll be seeing blueheronfarm today, lol.

Wish I was in Texas today
My son is returning to Ft. Hood from Iraq today. But there are major money constraints to traveling plus I have my goats to tend, and a job milking cows too. But my heart is in Texas today. Though, my Sgt. son probably won't acknowledge that his mom is a farmer through and through.

Don't stop now, Texans, lets see how many we are. It's nice to know neighbors!
I should be at the goat meeting but we have been working outside in this nice weather today. I keep trying to get to a meeting but always have something to do
BTW "neighbors"...we will have lots of kids and good trained fresh milkers for sale this spring too

I'm at Canyon Lake near New Braunfels. No goats since I live in a subdivision and my neighbors were about to make cabrito out of the ones we had (they would not keep quiet from 4a to 10p). I still look though since I love seeing the babies. I will have goats again someday after I am thru med scholl and have more time.

Well, I'm not new here, but I'm in Texas too We don't raise goats at the moment, though our roomate has a growing herd of Fainting goats, so we have a bunch on the farm now. We raise cattle and hogs, plus chickens and ducks. Planning to raise more turkeys this year.

Down South, way down south.........
La Feria Texas, Rio Grande Valley just a few miles from the river and Mexico. You know the area, we have been in the news lately. Yea, they plan to build some big 'ol wall near here. Oh well, no doubt the goats will appreciate the shade it gives.
2 registered percentage Boer does, one percentage Boer buck, one boer cross with ???
I really enjoy reading the posts on this site, awesome bunch of folks and a lot of good information to learn from a bunch of very experienced people. Even a few people from other places besides Texas!!!

Hey NorthoftheBorder - how close to Quemada are you. A guy named Alex Risa has 2 of my LGD's there to protect his young Boer Goats. His ranch is Balolo Boer Goats.

Texican and I live near Carthage, in East Texas. We raise mostly LaManchas, but are starting to experiment with mini-manchas too. Last year we started with 5 goats from Emily Dixon's herd, now we are up to 15 goats, plus 6 new kids born this past week. We enjoy milking our girls, and hope to become more experienced cheese-makers this year. Last year we made mozzerella and ricotta, and some chevre. I dabbled in soap but hope to be able to make and sell some this year.
Our herd roams free on over 100 acres of browse, but of course we suppliment their feed. They are protected by 3 Anatolian Shepherds and a red heeler who keeps the Anatolians in line.
We also raise free-range chickens, a few ducks/geese, quail, and rabbits!

I'm not in Texas, but close, just over the border in Ok. I'm about 100 miles NE of Paris.
I have 4 Saanens (1 buck, 1 wether to keep the buck company, 1 milking doe, 1 doeling), 1 Saanen/Boer cross doe, and 12 ND's (4 wethers, 1 buck, 5 does, 2 doelings). The wethers will go to freezer camp soon.
For anyone who's close enough to attend, there's a goat auction at Idabel the first Friday of each month. I haven't got to go yet, but plan to go next month.
