stream of goo???

Tonight Gretta had a very long stream of red/pink goo coming out. I seem to remember reading that there is discharge from the mama a week after having the babies...it's only been 2 days so now I'm worried. It's so cold it turned into an icicle and then broke off.

There can be discharge at any time for weeks after kidding. Don't worry about it.

No, you're not a worry wort, just a good "goat momma"! Don't worry, they can do that for quite a while after birth. It can be varying shades, from pink to red.

Minelson, much like a woman who gives birth, a doe will have a discharge of lochia for some time after delivery. It is her uterus cleaning itself out. There is no need to worry at all UNLESS it becomes very foul in odor...so foul that it knocks you over as if there was something dead in there. That along with a temp would indicate an infection or a dead kid or placenta left in there. OR if the blood is bright red and fresh bleeding and a lot. that would indicate hemorrhage.

Many of us "milkmaids" do the "sniff test" when we put our newly freshened does on the milkstand. it becomes such a habit. We know what a healthy discharge should smell like. So if a doe has an infection or a problem, we can catch it right away.
